COOK-OUT

The 11th of September, the club organized a cook-out at the airport. Those who had been flying were hungry, and those who did not fly...well they were hungry too. Chris Carpenter became the center of attention when he started baking his "upside-down cake". Not only was the cake delicious, but it was also beautiful to look at AND a great show to prepare. Chris put as much attention to the symetry of the cake as to the simetry of the planes.

Here's my description of the process:

START

Make room for the REALLY hot stone where the cake will rest to bake. Gently ask everyone to get out the way. Open the bags with the ingredients...

FIRST STEP

Find some little Angel to help you pour the exact amount of eggs and flour into the mixing pot. Add vanilla, sugar, butter and whatever it is that makes the cake fluffy...

BEAT

Beat the mix to combine the ingredients evenly. This is important...

BEAT MORE

Beat more...

BEAT SOME MORE

Beat some more. Be glad that so many girls around you look so happy while YOU are beating the mix...

WHILE YOU BEAT

The boys are also happy to see YOU do such a fine job. Keep beating...

DECORATE

Now put the fruit on the top (bottom, remember this is an upside-down cake) of the thickened mix. Make sure that they are symetrically located around the center; weight and balance is always critical around here.

BAKE

Finally, close the iron pot and sit it on 12 symetrically located cubes of slowly burning charcoal resting on the abovementioned hot stone. Now place 16 charcoal cubes on top of the pot's lid. Remember that symetry!

WHILE IT BAKES

Go help yourself to the hamburgers, sausages and hotdogs.

ENJOY THE CAMARADERIE

And the sunset. Don't rush the day, relax and smell the flowers.

DON'T FORGET THE SALAD

Help yourself to the potatoes, the cold drinks, the grapes and apples.

FINALLY

When the cake is ready (how does one know it is ready?) open the lid, carefully turn it upside-down, let the smell fill the air, keep an eye on the drooling photographer who looks voracious, distribute the cake amongst your friends, watch out for the photographer, enjoy the praise from your friends for a well done job, where's the photographer?! where's the rest of the cake?! why aren't there any pictures of the finished cake?!!!
