SECURITY WISE

Dan Montgomery has asked that we all remember to not only use the west gate at Terry, but to also make sure that it is locked as well. Lately we have been going home and forgetting about it. If in doubt, always lock it behind you as you enter. Otherwise, the crew chief/DO needs to make sure it is locked at days end.

AWAY TO ALEXANDRIA!

Our away weekend this year is scheduled for September 13, 14 & 15 at Knotts Airport (I99) just southeast of Alexandria.

CFIG Nyal Williams visited the airport recently and reports that the facilities are neat and clean with nice restrooms and nice rooms to relax in. The runway is nice, but with a small hump in middle. It appears there is enough room on either side.

Word has it that Peter Detore is bringing his famous smoked turkeys for Saturday evening, so you won't want to miss this event. Please bring a dish and something to drink if you can.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER

When flying at the airport, here are a few things to remember. For more information go to the Alexandria Airport link at AirNav.com.
  • Elevation 900ft.
  • Humpbacked (894ft at west end and 885 at east end. Aircraft on ground cannot see each other at opposite ends).
  • Runway 2591ft.
  • Unicom frequency: 122.8
  • Pattern Altitude 1700MSL (800ft above ground. All left-hand patterns.)
  • Anderson controlled airspace 3 statute miles south. Muncie controlled airspace 7 miles east. Both airspaces extend to 3400msl.*
*Note to those of you who insist on setting altimeter at zero: These airspace levels are 2500ft above their particular ground level. These are not related to the ground level at Alexandria; their elevation is higher and if you sink to your indicated 2500ft.agl over their airspace you will be in violation.
  • Keep Muncie and Anderson frequencies in front of you in case you have to call them. Muncie (MIE): 120.1 Anderson (AID): 126.0

Nearby places to eat: Hi-Way Cafe - breakfast, lunch, dinner. (closes early) Dairy Queen - lunch, dinner Brenda's Place - lunch, dinner Great Wall Chinese - lunch, dinner.
