EAGLE FLYERS PROGRAM

Dan Montgomery has offered CISS a membership in Eagle Flyers which cover the rental aircraft and instruction at Terry Airport. This normally requires a $399. per person membership, and $39.00 per month dues. He has offered a membership to CISS for the one time fee, and one membership fee per month, regardless of how many club members might use the services. We discussed this at the last board meeting and decided that this was a significant offer from Dan that we should poll the members to see how many would want to use it. There is no intent to use club funds for this, but if there is a significant interest, we will explore further options. Reply to truble@chilitech.com if you are interested.

GROUND SCHOOL FOR THOSE WINTER BLUES

I propose to conduct two specific training activities over the "non-soaring" season. All of the sessions will be at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University facility at 5640 Professional Circle (over near Indianapolis International Airport).

PRACTICAL TEST TRAINING
This training is designed for instructor pilots and future applicants for practical tests. We will discuss preparation for and conduct of the practical test to preclude some of the "simple but critical errors" that have caused applicant disapproval on their first attempt. The session would be for about three hours on the morning of November 23, 2002. I would like responses from those who intend to participate and you choice of start time - 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM.

WINTER GROUND SCHOOL
Due to some vacation plans I have for the winter, the CISS Glider Ground School will be offered on fewer days - for a longer period. I propose to conduct the ground training in preparation for the FAA written examinations on the four Saturdays in February (2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22). Training will begin at 9:00 AM, there will be a break for lunch about noon and then continue until about 3:00 PM. I will prepare a schedule of the training at a later date, when participation is more known. I would like instructors to try to make some of the sessions to serve as
coaches during "practical exercises".
Please respond (both instructor and students) if you will be attending all or some of the ground training sessions.
A hint to potential flight instructors - attending and teaching these sessions is a good way to prepare for your CFI.

All those interested need to reply to e-mail: MRIELAGE@AOL.com or Telephone 317-291-6330.

OUTLANDINGS
(otherwise know as the "Uh Oh" column)
by Ron Clarke

Here is a list of all those this year that, uh, landed not exactly as planned.

ZA (Ron Clarke) - Boone Co. airport in mid August.

VT (Brad Hayes) - 1 mile North of Terry late August.

ZA2 (Chris Carpenter) - 3 miles North of Terry mid September.

TTT (Terry Wools) - Terry did double as good you might say , but then again one must remember that the second time he landed out ( close to Shirley, IN) was after retrieving the trophy from Caesar Creek. So you can't really call that an "Uh oh" - or can you ?

ps. Terry once let slip that he had a favorite grade school teacher called Shirley, and that he gets uneasy every time he flies over the town of that name!

Be prepared. If you fly cross country enough, it can happen to you!

CLUB MEETING PROGRAMS FOR 2002-2003

At the September club meeting a suggestion was made by one of the members that a different club memeber be responsible for the "Progam" at each future club meeting.

The next two meetings are covered and Ron Clarke has volunteered to arrange the program for this month's meeting (October 24) . Ron has indicated he will talk about some of the early history of the club. As most probably know Ron is slowly ( in the winters when flying is little !) compiling a record of events in the club up until today. This record will be published in the next year, and he invites all who have stories to tell ,or interesting 'photos etc. to bring these to the next meeting to share with him and other members . If anyone would like to volunteer to arrange a program during the next year ( you will be able to share your favorite glider subject with the full membership ) please let Tom Ruble know and he will let you pick a month to be the program organiser that meeting.
