CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION AT THE WRIGHT MEMORIAL

The following is a message from the Wilbur Wright Birthplace Memorial right here in Millville, Indiana. They are having a celebration for the 100 Years of Flight and are requesting all aviation clubs to participate. They would love to have us attend. After all, it just wouldn't be "Wright" without a glider there. They have a museum with original Wright artifacts, a hangar - modeled after the Wright's and a full size mock up of the Wright Flyer. They even suggested we could have an away weekend at their nearby airstrip (unsure of the name). Be sure to put this on your calendar!

To all Indiana Aviation Clubs & Members,

Please join Wilbur Wright Birthplace & Museum, Millville - Indiana, in our plans for a special 2003 Festival.

As you are well aware, 2003 will be the 100 year celebration of powered flight. The Wright Brothers gave the possibilities of powered flight to the world. Indiana certainly has a place in the celebration, as Wilbur, the older of the two brothers, was born in HENRY COUNTY INDIANA. Richmond and Indianapolis also were part of events of the Wrights and the entire Wright Family.

Typically, we have an annual Festival at the Wilbur Wright Birthplace, the 3rd weekend of June. The dates for the Festival of 2003 are: Friday, June 20, Saturday, June 21, & Sunday, June 22.

We want to invite Indiana Aviation / Flying Club members to join in our plans for a very special aviation celebration event. We do have a full size replica of the 1903 "Flyer" built by Buford Gross of Peru, Indiana, in the Museum. This is the center piece of all the artifacts of the Wright family, on display in the Museum.

Some copies of information are included with this letter; please copy any or all as you like.
Several special meetings are planned to make final plans for 2003. At this date, our next meeting is Wed. Oct. 30 2002 at 6:pm, at the Museum meeting room.
