2003 Membership Drive
We are starting a campaign to increase our membership by focusing on existing Licensed Pilots. This has already kicked off with the placement of our "World Class Soaring" posters in most central Indiana FBOs. These have been overprinted for this purpose. If you wish to see one, there two posted at Montgomery Aviation. We have requested a free ad (next page) to run in the Weekend section of the Star, and we will be sending a mailing to 5,500 pilots in the area from which we have traditionally drawn our membership. A copy of that letter is reproduced here so that all will know about our program and the concurrent "Try Soaring Program" sponsored by SSA and Sporty's. Please pay special attention to the conditions under which pilots may receive a $30.00 discount on their "Introductory Lesson" (Introductory Flight.) This is very important as we do not want to be extending this benefit to non-qualifying pilots. We are waiting for delivery of "Try Soaring Program" brochures and coupons which must be filled out and put in with the Liability Indemnification Form and money collected for each flight. If there are any questions please call or email me. Jeff Melin 317-848-5306 8csoars@prodigy.net

Dear Fellow Pilot,

Are you a pilot concerned about the increasing costs of flying, passing your medical, or just looking for a way to put the fun back into flying? Then soaring (flying Gliders) may be for you!

The Central Indiana Soaring Society, Inc. (CISS), a non-profit club operated by and for its members, has brought the thrill of engine-less flight to Indiana residents for over forty years. As a chartered Chapter of the Soaring Society of America (SSA), we are always ready to show you just how much Fun soaring can be. Simply defined, a "Soaring" pilot has developed the skills necessary to maintain flight in rising air masses over plains, ridges and mountains to achieve flights of great distance, duration, and altitude by use of natures' energy rather than an engine. Soaring records include flights of over 1,200 miles, 49,000' MSL, and closed course speeds in excess of 145 MPH. Besides recreational flying, soaring is also a national and international competitive sport regulated domestically by the SSA and NAA and internationally by the FAI.

If you would like to experience engine-less flight, then visit us at Indianapolis-Terry Airport (TYQ) on SR 32, just 2mi. East of US 421 on Saturdays and Sundays between noon and 3:00PM (weather permitting).

Park near the new, large terminal building and walk into the office. Ask for us and we will pick you up. Meet the people! Watch the operation! Take an introductory flight!

This year we are participating in the "Try Soaring Program" promoted by Sporty's and SSA. If you are interested in Soaring and meet the program requirements; we will offer you a $30.00 Discount on your Introductory Lesson (normally $60.00). You must be a Licensed Pilot or have a Student Certificate, have no previously logged glider time, and have your log book(s) and Photo ID with you at the time of your visit. A program brochure and coupon will be provided unless you have already received one elsewhere.

For more information visit us on the Internet at http://centralindianasoaringsociety.org (and linked sites) or call me, Jeff Melin, Membership Chairman, evenings at (317) 848-5306.

Fly Safely and Have Fun!
