AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A POUND OF CURE

I just examined and repaired, retired, or replaced all of the tow ropes. In the process, I've exhausted our supply of vinyl bottles used to protect the tow rings. These bottles are trash, or in a ecologically responsible household - recycling. A Tost tow ring costs about $35.00 and does not like grinding its way down the runway with each runway landing.

Your cooperation in donating white plastic bottles such as toner pigment, food supplement, drug, and vitamin containers will be appreciated. We need the size a tennis ball will just fit into. You might be able to get your Pharmacist to help out too! Please leave them in the box with the tennis balls on the steel shelving in the hangar.

If you don't know how big a tennis ball is, please take one, after you are done with it play tennis, or give it to your dog.

If you are sensitive about the junk you are ingesting or drugs being taken, soak the labels off; or sneak in and leave them while no one is looking - but please help out!

Our tow rings and I will be forever grateful,

Jeff Melin

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Recently, Jeff Melin graciously took on the responsibility as Membership Chairman for the club. Please contact him with any questions you may have concerning your membership or membership changes.

Please welcome Joe Romero and Glen Smock to CISS.

Joe joins us as a Student Pilot. He has indicated interest in Maintenance, Scheduling/Operations, Social Events, and Contest Organization. Any of our movers and shakers needing help on those areas, please remember to give Joe a call.

Joe works in insurance underwriting at Superior Insurance Group. He and his wife Megan, live downtown.

Glen is re-joining the club as a student pilot after an absence of of about 14 years. He belonged to CISS for a brief time in the mid to late 80's but had too much else going on at home to keep it up. He and his wife have 4 children, 2 in college and 2 in high school. He lives in the Greenfield area and works at Rolls-Royce. It is good to have him back!

On a membership update note, please be advised that CFIG Jerry Carroll has a new phone number. His new number is 317-258-6244. Be sure to note the change.

NEW "KEEPER OF THE ROPES"

John Masella is taking over this responsibility from Jeff Melin who has been splicing and dicing for quite a long time. He thinks since '95 or '96. That doesn't really matter; what does matter is that more members need to be involved in helping to run CISS. Since Jeff wears several other hats, he is grateful that John has agreed to take on this important job. John had shown interest in this job previously and had some prior exposure to splicing rope, but Jeff wasn't willing to give it up at the time. John will start immediately after receiving information and training.

Please give John your support, keep him advised about any problems, and of course keep those plastic bottles and tennis balls coming!
