Announcing the 2003 CISS Cross-Country Contest Hey Racefans, the CISS cross-country contest is taking on a new format this year, promising more racing and chances for all. Limiting the races to two 3-day weekends in the past has resulted in more off days than on days, so we're going to use a system that allows a race day to be any day that three or more gliders agree to "race" for at least thirty miles. Pilots will not need to fly the same tasks, and multiple turnpoints will be allowed using any airport shown on a sectional chart. We will use flight recorders or GPS traces as verification instead of cameras and barographs (if you can't remember what those were used for, ask any graybeard glider pilot). The best four flights submitted by contestants during the year, April 1 October 31, will be scored to determine the winner. There will be a provision for a CISS Club entry, consisting of the best four flights in any/all club ships by multiple pilots aggregated together. So let's see that PW and Grob out on a course this year: could be close in airports like Boone County, Sheridan, Westfield, etc. The complete rules are available in PDF format at CISS XCountry Rules and we will be looking for some action soon to test this format out. Feel free to call/email Don Taylor 317-848-9828 don_taylor@earthlink.net with any questions. See you at the start gate! |
