GLIDER CAMP IN JUNE
Are you not flying as much as you wish? Would you like to speed up your learning curve?
Well, you have a chance to do just that this June.
On behalf of the students that have expressed interest, I am trying to put together a mini camp for glider students (transition pilots and new students). The format will be the same as Mike and Nyal have done in the past – each student will be assigned to an instructor, both blaniks will be flying, and we will try to get as many flights per day in as the weather allows. Usually we can get each student through three flights.
If you are a student – please let me know the days and times that you would like to attend. If you are not interested, let me know also.
If you are a tow pilot – would you be able to tow? If so what days and times?
If you an instructor – would you be able to instruct? If so what days and times?
Everyone – If I missed any of the new students, please forward the message to them.
Thanks for your help!
Cheryl Beckage.

INSTRUCTOR'S CORNER
WHAT IS AN INSTRUCTOR FOR?
Most everyone will tell you that an instructor is to teach you how to fly. Good answer!
But that is not all of it; an instructor is also supposed to keep you safe. That means
the instructor is supposed to let you make lots of mistakes, from which you learn,
while not letting you do something that is dangerous to your well-being.
So, relax! Go ahead and make some mistakes. You can rest easy as a student, take a
light grip on the stick, wiggle your toes on the pedals, and enjoy your flight. You will
learn better with an alert but relaxed attitude.
Nyal Williams.
DON'T FORGET THE PARACHUTE
If you take the parachute with you in your flight, make a note about it on the flight list of the day
so you can be billed the corresponding $1 per flight. If you have to USE the parachute...well,
let's say that dollar will look very small and you will be glad you payed it.

11 MINUTES
Who remembers how many times Ron Clarke has soared for hours, flown hundreds of miles, and climbed thousands of feet while everybody else is on the ground?
Nobody can remember.
HOWEVER! Who will ever forget the day in May of 2004 when Ron was back on the ground only 11 minutes after takeoff ?!
Even I flew 14 minutes that day!
Ron was not happy with it; the weather gremlins had just picked on him.
But Ron knew that even without thermals there are other ways to fly, namely, USE A MOTOR, fly a biplane. And that's exactly what he did.
Now he patiently waits for us to erase from our memories those 11 minutes. NOT A CHANCE!
I WANT YOU
To write an article for this newsletter.
As long as it deals with soaring or flying and is PG-13, it is welcome.
Please send it to me by June 14th.
