The Year In Pictures
"A picture says more than a thousand words.."
Well, what about a thousand pictures?!
The year 2003 was good in many ways, for the new people, the not-so-new people, and the
lets-call-them-old-even-though-they're-not-really-old people. Gerry Simpson started from zero and after a single summer
and almost 100 flights, he obtained his A, B, and C badges. Way to go!
Bob Gillan reached his instruction flight #3300. That's right 3300. Waaaaay to gooo!!!
Ron Clarke can't find more walls to hang the many more diplomas, recognitions, certificates and records that he received in 2003.
Sheryl Beckage obtained her pilot license and did her first soloes in the Grob and PW5 ships.
Pete Detore got his silver duration and silver badge #6440. Nyal Williams managed to anger our Ohio glider friends by flying to
their club unanounced on a weekday and leaving them a "trophy" in the shape of a wheel hubcap.
Yours truly also got his A, B and C badges.
We had many guest visitors from various states and countries.
We welcomed new members in the club that from the begining proved to have been stung by
the soaring bug.
(Is it an acquired disease, or is it genetic? Who cares! It is a lot of fun.)
We were hosts to many glider pilots from all over the world who made a stop at Terry airport on their way to Kitty Hawk.
We had Manfred Radius in Indianapolis giving us a public endorsement, and showing us that after you have learned everything about gliding,
there are still a lot more tricks to learn.
2003 was specially good to me, coming back home to Indiana after 3 years away in Germany.
Amongst many things I learned over there, flying sailplanes was the most fun. While still in Europe,
I was already almost familiar with many of the faces of the members of the CISS, thanks to this website.
As the happy owner of a camera that takes digital pictures, which happen to be FREE,
I took around 500 pictures through the year. The camera feels so tired that it has tried to escape from me a couple of times.
I wouldn't claim that every one of these pictures is a memorable picture, but I do claim that the memories it brings are first class.
Many other people have also been capturing the moments before they are forever gone.
The following are a few of the hundreds of pictures taken by us in 2003.
The collection is not very organized, and certainly not complete, but it is there and it is nice. If you have pictures that you'd like to share,
send them here.
Have fun!
